This is a very dangerous revelation for City Beautiful Chandigarh. The growing number of TB patients in the city has caused great concern. Chandigarh has the highest number of TB cases in the country. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India has the highest number of TB cases reported in the world.
According to the WHO, there are 26.90 lakh TB patients in India while Chandigarh has 606 TB cases per one lakh population. In view of the increasing number of TB patients, the Ministry of Health has launched a TB Free India campaign. Under this campaign, the Chandigarh Health Department has now launched a campaign for free testing and treatment of TB.

AFTER CHANDIGARH, DELHI AND PUDUCHERRY HAVE THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF TB PATIENTS

According to the WHO report, Delhi and Puducherry have the highest number of TB cases after Chandigarh. In Delhi, 575 out of one lakh people and 314 out of one lakh people in Puducherry have been diagnosed with TB, while on an average, there are 177 TB patients per one lakh people in the country.

THE THREAT IS ALSO GROWING IN HARYANA, PUNJAB AND HIMACHAL

According to the report, 255 out of 100,000 people in Haryana have TB, while 235 out of 100,000 people in Himachal Pradesh and 196 in Punjab have TB. In view of the growing problem of TB, the Haryana, Punjab and Himachal governments have now started free screening and treatment facilities at the district hospital and dispensary level. Apart from this the Haryana government is also providing financial assistance to the TB patients so that they can arrange nutritious food for themselves with this financial assistance.
